WHAT ARE PRESSURE POINTS?
Definitions:
- Pressure: In the pure dictionary definition pressure is the force applied to a unit area of surface.
- Point: A specific spot or location on the body.
- Therapy: Treatment of some illness or some pain or ailment of the body that produces some benefit towards healing the body.
Pressure points are tight spots in the muscles especially occurring along the spine, in the upper shoulders, over the shoulder blades and in the buttock as well as down the back side of the thigh and into the leg. Below you will find a basic over view of their locations.

Many of these tight spots in the muscles are unknown to you until the points are worked, that is, where pressure is applied. Have you ever had somebody walk up behind you and place their hands on your shoulders in a rubbing/kneading fashion and you stated to them “I’ll give you an hour to stop”. What they have found is a bunch of Pressure Points and in most cases you did not know that they existed. Sure, you probably felt very tight but did not know the extent of the situation until the person started rubbing.
So, what about these pressure points? Well, let’s think about it. What goes through your muscles? Blood vessels, nerves? Yes! So what happens to blood vessels and nerves when your muscles are tight? That’s right, it squeezes them ultimately restricting blood flow and nerve flow. This is a dangerous thing for your body and can trigger many conditions that you may not realize like headaches, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, problems with your organs and the list goes on!
When pressure points are treated you may feel pain over the area of treatment and/or you may feel pain referred to another part of your body. We have found that when treating these pressure points patients can experience a wide variety of sensations. But, the bottom line is that each person will experience some kind of relief after the treatment is done.

"I attended one of the introductory sessions Dr. Mattingly offers. At the end of the session, I approached Ryan, who does the Pressure Point Therapy, with an ear problem I had been having for several weeks. The ear was totally unclogged thanks to Ryan's Magic Fingers. I am a happy patient!" - U.H.
